SMDJ - Millbrae council race revolves around District 2

Millbrae council race revolves around District 2 Candidates focus on budgets, future development and policing efforts Nicholas Mazzoni Daily Journal staff   Sep 28, 2022 Two seats are available on the Millbrae City Council this November but only one contested race as the city transitions to district elections. The vote for residents in District 4 — the west side of Millbrae that is bordered by Millbrae Avenue, Laurel Avenue and Helen Drive — has been made easy with a single candidate, Maurice Goodman, a San Mateo County Community College District trustee. On the other hand, District 2 voters — including residents around St. Dustin’s, Lomita School, Landing Lane and part of downtown — will have a choice between Angelina Cahalan, a nonprofit director, and former mayor Wayne Lee. Whoever is elected will have an array of issues they inherit — the city’s budget challenges, future downtown development, supporting merchants, building relationships with outside agencies and policing effort...

Millbrae News - Candidate Wayne Lee

During November 22, 2013 former council member and current candidate Wayne Lee invited Vice Secretary Guoxiong Zhong who is a member of the Chinese Communist Party to his coronation installation as Mayor on December 10, 2013. This is on the heels of the former City Manager Marcia Raines traveling to Kaiping, China among other destinations in her official capacity as City Manager both facilitated and implicitly approved by Wayne. I am concerned about the extent of former council member and mayor Wayne Lee's "international activities" and especially the level of priority it took during his mayoral term of 2014 and 2019. We can clearly see the agenda and uptick in sister cities and friendly cities activities pushed out fast and furious. "Mayor Lee thanked the Vice Mayor for going on this trip to showcase the City, and stated that Millbrae is in competition with these other cities for money from China and that it is critical to make these connections with China. He als...

Millbrae sells land to get monument back Sign taken down, City Council seeks replacement Nicholas Mazzoni Daily Journal staff   13 hrs ago Millbrae city officials are seeking to replace a city monument sign after it was taken down during the development of the new Alexandria Center — 560,000 square feet over four buildings and a parking structure private project on the corner of Rollins Road and Millbrae Avenue — for Life Sciences. The City Council agreed to sell the 826-square-foot city-owned parcel that overlaps a public plaza, an amenity building and a portion of landscape. The city hired a private appraiser, Associated Right of Way Services, that found the value of the parcel to be worth $229,000. “What’s disturbing is the loss of a monument,” Vice Mayor Gina Papan said, adding she hopes there will be a secondary agreement to replace it. She hopes that the project developer will make a secondary agreement to replace the landmark. Councilmember Anders Fung clarified that there w...

That chunk of concrete sent the councilman to the hospital with a two-inch gash on his head and a neck. Now there's word of a significant development in the search for the suspects. "It's my understanding that two persons of interest are now in custody and they're trying to identify these individuals and see if [there are] any connections to this case," said Councilman Fung. US Park Police are heading the investigation, and issued a bulletin following the attack with the photos Fung's family snapped of the potential suspects as they walked away from the attack. The bulletin says...
